Star Wars: Episode VII tipped to feature Peter Mayhew as Chewbacca

Rumors and speculation about the upcoming Star Wars films is in no short supply, but little has been stated officially. That hasn't stopped sources from cropping up, with the latest among them tipping Peter Mayhew as onboard to reprise his role as Chewbacca.

Speculation had previously surfaced that Mayhew would be returning to play his character from the original movies. Such rumors were spurred by the sudden cancellation of a planned appearance at Comicpalooza, the cited reason being "due to filming".

The rumor has not been confirmed by the powers that be, but all signs point in the affirmative. It has been said that filming for the movie has already begun, and that both new and familiar actors will be featured in the next movie. Who those actors will be has also been left unstated.

According to Disney's Alan Horn, many of the cast members are already set, and so hopefully the wait for official confirmation won't drag on too much longer. Until then, hit up the timeline below for other recent news on the upcoming Star Wars films.
