Star Fox is coming to Ubisoft's Starlink: Battle for Atlas

With games like Skull and Bones and Assassin's Creed Odyssey on the horizon for Ubisoft, you'd be forgiven if you forgot about its upcoming toys-to-life game, Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Starlink was first revealed back at E3 2017, and this year, it made another appearance. What we thought was just a new trailer quickly took an interesting turn, as Ubisoft revealed that a beloved Nintendo character will feature in the game.

Even if we didn't spoil the surprise in the title, it's probably clear which Nintendo character fits best within an adventure game set in space. None other than Star Fox will be featured as a playable character in Starlink, assuming you pick up the Nintendo Switch version of the game. Sorry Xbox One and PS4 owners, but Fox McCloud will (obviously) be a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

The hope, of course, is that Nintendo eventually does more with the Star Fox franchise on Switch, but this might satiate some fans for the time being. Starlink is following in the footsteps of games like Disney Infinity and Skylanders, as it allows players to construct in-game ships using real-world, modular toys. How it all works is described in the trailer you see below.

The addition of Star Fox wasn't the only thing Ubisoft had to announce when it comes to Starlink today. The company confirmed that Starlink: Battle for Atlas will launch on October 16, 2018. Whether or not it can find success where other toys-to-life games have failed remains to be seen, but we're guessing spaceships and Star Fox will definitely give it a fighting chance.
