Spotify for Android and iOS to get videos this week

Spotify will be rolling out video content to its Android and iOS apps in the very near future, according to the company. The video content will be available by the end of next week, and will give users access to content from places like Comedy Central and Vice Media. Android users will get access to the content first some time this week, and will be followed by iOS users by the end of next week.

We've known for a while now that Spotify planned to introduce video content for its subscribers, and it has been testing that content with the mobile apps for many months (though only with a small number of users). Android users in the United States, UK, Sweden, and Germany will get the videos first.

By the end of next week, iOS users in the same regions will then get access. Content is described as primarily being short clips from various sources, as well as some original content tailored for Spotify's audience. It seems the clips will be presented to users based on what kind of music they listen to.

As well, videos will be presented in package-like arrangements, things like "News of the Week," which makes it easier for users to find content without giving them an overwhelming number of options. The videos will not launch with ads, though they will likely be added at some point in Spotify's future.
