Spotify finally gets Siri support in iOS 13: Here's how it works

It's been a long time coming, but as of today the iOS faithful can tap into Siri while using Spotify. This missing functionality has been a point of contention between Spotify and Apple, but now it seems the two companies can finally bury the hatchet on that front, though we imagine some conflict with still remain between the two. Previously, only Apple Music was able to boast Siri integration, though that changed when Apple opened up SiriKit in iOS 13.

Spotify has been pretty quick to adopt that new functionality, today pushing an update to its iOS app that enables support for Siri voice commands. Obviously, you'll need a device running iOS 13 to take advantage of this feature, but that shouldn't be too difficult to achieve considering that the operating system is compatible with iPhones dating back to the iPhone 6S and SE.

It isn't just iPhones that support Siri voice commands in Spotify, though. The App Store listing for Spotify says that Siri functionality is available on iPad, Carplay, AirPods, and HomePod via AirPlay, so there are a number of devices gaining this feature today.

Other items of note that are shipping along with this update include a low data mode, which again ties into iOS 13. When your device is in low data mode, Spotify will automatically switch on its data saver, saving you the trouble of turning it on yourself. As of today, Spotify is also available on Apple TV, and you can find the app in the tvOS App Store or get it by turning on automatic app installs for your device.

So, there you have it: Siri is now compatible with Spotify. Voice commands work mostly like you'd expect them to, except you'll need to add "on Spotify" to the end of your request (so, for instance, a request to play Ariana Grande songs would be "Hey Siri, play Ariana Grande on Spotify.") You can take this functionality for a spin yourself by updating Spotify through the iOS App Store.
