Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition official with waterproof massiveness

At the same time as the push for the LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition this afternoon comes the official unveiling of the Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition. This machine works with unlocked 4G LTE, GSM, UMPS, and HSPA+ and comes with a massive 6.4-inch display. Users will be working with the most "pure" version of Android 4.4 KitKat as well right out of the box.

The Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition works with an 8-megapixel camera at its back and a 2-megapixel camera up front and otherwise acts as one massive smartphone. Sony revealed the original Sony Z Ultra earlier this year as another blurring of the lines between smartphone and tablet, this machine looking like a miniature tablet or otherwise a massive smartphone as such. Here Google adopts the device as their own.

This device will be released alongside the HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4, and LG G Pad 8.9 Google Play Editions as well, here creating a family of devices from the biggest manufacturers in the United States.

This machine will be appearing first with a microSD/XC card slot and otherwise 16GB of internal storage. Users will be rolling with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz alongside 2GB of RAM – outside the vanilla Android inside, you'll find this device bringing the same experience as the original (Sony Xperia S Ultra) released earlier this year.

Google Play will be hosting the Sony Z Ultra Google Play Edition at $649 USD unlocked and off-contract starting this week for the USA. At this time Google has not released details on any international availability – stay tuned!
