Sony Xperia Z1 Honami teaser confirms G-Series lens
Sony continues to drip-feed Android enthusiasts with tidbits from its upcoming Xperia Z1 "Honami", with the latest in the pre-IFA teaser campaign being a close-up of what's expected to be a very high resolution camera. The shot, shared over at Google+, confirms that the smartphone will use on of Sony's G-series lenses, which is believed to sit in front of a 20.7-megapixel sensor.
Inside, Sony is expected to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz processor, paired up to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The phone is also tipped to be waterproof, just like the Xperia Z and Xperia Z Ultra, while the display is rumored to be a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD panel.
That puts Sony somewhere in the "more megapixels" camp of smartphone photography, which has seen a few different approaches in recent months. On the one hand, devices like the Galaxy S 4 and this new Honami pack in more pixels, while Nokia takes a slightly different approach with an even higher, 41-megapixel sensor on the Lumia 1020, but intended to output shots roughly 5-megapixels in size that take advantage of pixel-oversampling.
Then, HTC has tried what it calls "UltraPixels", where each camera pixel is larger for increased light pick-up, though there are fewer of them overall.
Of course, we don't have to take Sony's piecemeal approach, since the Xperia Z1 has already broadly leaked in the past few weeks. Most recently, the whole phone – from all angles – was caught in the wild, complete with claims that the display is brighter than the well-selling Xperia Z.
