Sony QX10 and QX100 Lens Camera pricing leaks

Fresh details on Sony's so-called Cyber-shot Lens Cameras, which wirelessly add improved photographic abilities to smartphones and tablets, have emerged, including expected pricing for the unusual attachments. The Sony Cyber-shot QX10 will be around $250, Sony Alpha Rumors reports, while the more capable QX100 will supposedly come in at $450.

If true, they're ambitious prices given the cameras in Sony's line-up that share the same sensor technology. For instance, the QX10's 1/2.3-inch, 18-megapixel CMOS is also to be found in the WX150, which currently retails for around $400.

Meanwhile, the QX100 supposedly has the same Exmor R sensor and lens pairing as in the Sony RX100M II, which currently retails for around $750.

Both the QX10 and QX100 support optical image stabilization, and store photos both in their own internal memory and on whatever phone or tablet is wirelessly connected. Video is recorded at up to 1080/30p Full HD.

Apps for Android and iOS will be offered, meaning the Lens Cameras will work with your new iPhone 5S, and will be responsible for adjusting settings like exposure, white balance, and focus. Zooming will also be controllable from the apps, though there's a physical rocker toggle on the barrel of the two cameras for direct control too.

Connectivity is said to be via WiFi, with NFC for easily pairing up with compatible phones such as Sony's recent high-end Xperias.

As we observed last week, the mobile camera market is beginning to look more interesting than simply chasing raw megapixels. The proof of Sony's new camera add-ons will be in their image quality, of course; the modular kit is expected to be unveiled at Sony's IFA 2013 event next week.
