Sony joins multi-SIM party with Xperia tipo dual

Sony took to Facebook to launch its new Xperia miro, but didn't bother to do more than slip a few Xperia tipo and Xperia tipo dual videos onto YouTube to reveal the budget smartphone pair. Coming in single- and dual-SIM variants, the tipo has a 3.2-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen and runs Ice Cream Sandwich on an 800MHz processor. Meanwhile the Xperia tipo dual has a dedicated button on the side to switch between the two SIMs.

There's also Bluetooth and WiFi b/g/n, along with GPS/aGPS, an FM radio with RDS and a 3.5mm headphone socket. A 3.2-megapixel camera on the back has autofocus and video recording, and inside there's 512MB of RAM and 2.5GB of user storage with a microSD card to add to that.

Sony says the 1,500 mAh battery should last for a full 24hrs of use, and with it the Xperia tipo and tipo dual come in at 13mm thick and tip the scales at a smudge over 99g. The Xperia tipo will arrive in black, white, red and blue variants, while the tipo dual will only come in black and white.

As for when, exactly, that launch will happen, Sony isn't saying. Nor is it revealing any pricing details, but with the relatively slow processor and low-res display this is undoubtedly a pair for the low-end market.
