SlashGear Week in Review - Week 37 2008

Two significant events on the tech calendar this week, with both CTIA Wireless and Apple's fall iPod launch hitting sunny San Francisco.  SlashGear has been at both, and huge numbers of you joined us on Tuesday morning for our by-now traditional Live Blog of Steve Jobs' slick new PMPs.  Make sure to check out our unboxing videos of the new iPod nano 4G and iPod touch 2G.

As for CTIA Wireless, key cellphones in the show were probably RIM's BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 and HTC's Touch Pro and Touch Diamond on Sprint.  One of the most interesting handsets this week wasn't actually on show, however; news of HTC's upcoming Touch HD broke on Wednesday, promising a wide-aspect WVGA touchscreen and more connectivity than a regional branch of Radio Shack.  What we did see, however, was Android firmware v1.0 running on a Qualcomm prototype handset: check out the multiple videos here.

Things got a little heated in the comments this week, in the run-up to the first tests of the Large Hadron Collider.  Scientists manning the project have apparently been receiving death threats

Wisely or otherwise, Microsoft chose this Monday to announce their new Zune PMPs, and promptly got lost in the iPod furore.  Elsewhere, the SlingCatcher and SlingBox Pro-HD went up for pre-order, while AT&T's U-verse system got a Total Home DVR upgrade for whole-house HD.  If that's not enough home entertainment news for you, then how about TiVo planning a DVR service through BlackBerry devices?

In reviews this week, we've featured Rosewill's Conqueror WSL PC case and Scandyna's Micropod SE Active speakers; we've also had a hands-on session with Velocity Mobile's 103 WM6.1 Pro smartphone.  We'll have the full review of that device, plus some exclusive Acer Aspire One content this coming week, so stay with SlashGear!
