SlashGear Week in Review - Week 13 2010

Welcome to the latest edition of the SlashGear Week in Review! Lots of cool stuff last week, the VAIO E notebooks went official with bright colors and 14 or 17-inch screens. The rigs can be had with various Intel CPUs. MEDL Tech unveiled a cool portable display with a 13-inch screen. The little display is perfect for notebook users on the go thanks to an internal rechargeable battery.

The Palm Pre Plus and Pixi Plus were confirmed as heading to AT&T early in the week. The devices will sell for $149.99 and $49.99 respectively. Apple revealed last week that retail stores would be able to sell unlocked iPhones. The 8GB phone is $499, the 16GB is $599, and the 32GB is $699.

Google made good on its threats against China this week and stopped censoring search results. Search queries are being rerouted through the Hong Kong Google engines Chinese language version. Vince went hands on with the HTC EVO 4G handset this week. He figures its fast enough to get him to sign a new contract with Sprint.

Remember that JooJoo tablet that is the center of a legal battle right now? Apparently the thing is set to meet its March 25 ship date according to the maker of the device on Tuesday of last week. The latest Takeshi Maeda OmniZero robot has debuted and it is cool. It rather looks like a red and black penguin to me.

A new accessory for the Xbox 360 tipped up in a 250GB HDD. The cost for the extra storage is $129.99. We spent some time fiddling with the Kyocera ZIO Android phone this week at CTIA. The thing is cool and it may even be free after subsidies.

The big news this week was the confirmation by Nintendo that is working on a new portable console called the 3DS. The device will play 3D games and will not require 3D glasses to play the games. Those cool sounding Acer Timeline notebooks that turned up a few weeks back and were promptly removed again are now official. The TimelineX 3820T, 4820T, and 5820T will be coming soon.

Another cool green mobile charger turned up this week called the Ventev EcoCHARGE. The charger eliminates vampire power by disconnecting itself when no phone is attached and charging. More details surfaced in Japan about the Nintendo 3DSi. The details included the tidbit that it will only be sold in Japan at first and it might get a joystick and accelerometer.

We posted up a review of the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge 13-inch notebook this week. We found a lot to like about the machine despite a majorly glossy screen. Some insane geek put a flamethrower on the back of his scooter this week. I guess if you ride a scooter around, you need something to make yourself look tougher.

Geeks looking for some new fashion accessories that shout "I'm a geek" should check out the Pong and BSOD belts. You can get either one for about $15. Pricing on iPad magazine subscriptions started to trickle in this week. A subscription to the Wall Street Journal will set you back $17.99.

Thursday we found out that the JooJoo tablet wouldn't hit the March 25 date the company talked about earlier in the week. However, the JooJoo will ship on March 29. We reviewd the cool Alienware M11x notebook this week. The result is that it's not the supreme leader in mobile gaming, but it has nice battery life and is very portable.

Friday new rumors of a new version of the iPhone were stoked again with a job listing for Apple looking for an engineer with LTE experience. Obviously, this will be to develop the LTE iPhone. Asus shipped a new convertible netbook in the US and Europe late in the week called the Eee T101MT. The machine has a multi-touch screen and will reportedly sell for $499.
