Skyrim VR is coming to Steam next month

While most Elder Scrolls fans are probably wondering when Bethesda will finally reveal The Elder Scrolls VI, it turns out the company isn't quite finished with its long line of Skyrim ports. This new port, however, is worth getting excited about, as Bethesda has revealed that it's bringing Skyrim VR to Steam. The launch happens next month, too, so the Steam version of Skyrim VR is just a couple short weeks away.

Initially, Skyrim VR was only announced for PSVR, despite the fact that Fallout 4 VR and DOOM VR were destined for PC. Skyrim VR seemed like the perfect candidate for an eventual Steam release, but up until today, Bethesda has kept quiet on such a port. Luckily, Bethesda clearly wasn't planning on keeping Skyrim VR exclusive to PS4 forever, and as the adage goes, "better late than never."

Skyrim VR will be something that's instantly familiar to those who are already well acquainted with the standard version. The base game – along with its three expansions – are kept intact with this jump to VR, so really the only thing that's changing is the control scheme (and, of course, the perspective). Skyrim VR offers new controls for virtual reality movement, combat, and magic, so if you thought the standard Skyrim experience was immersive, this might be worth checking out.

A listing for Skyrim VR is already live over on the Steam store, and that tells us the game will be compatible with Oculus Rift, HTC VIVE, and Windows Mixed Reality. It'll also cost $60, so if you were hoping to pay less considering Skyrim's age, we're sorry to disappoint you.

It's hard to believe that there'd be anyone left who hasn't tried Skyrim yet, but if that's you, then maybe you should take Skyrim VR for a spin. It'll be here on April 3, so while we wait, head down to the comments section and let us know if you're planning to pick it up.
