Skype for iPad returns to App Store

Skype for iPad has been re-added to the App Store, having briefly made an appearance yesterday. Skype pushed out the tablet version of the app late on Monday, but then quickly took it down again amid claims that it "went live prematurely"; now the download is active again [iTunes link].

The VoIP company is yet to confirm why, exactly, it yanked the software originally. Still, most users will be more curious about what it brings to the iPad, which includes the usual Skype-to-Skype calls (free of charge) as well as Skype Out calls to landlines and mobiles (assuming you have credit on your account). WiFi and 3G calls are supported – assuming your operator is happy with that – and if you have an iPad 2 then you can use the front and rear cameras for video chat.

Original iPad owners, meanwhile, will have to make do with voice calls or incoming video only, since they don't have a camera to play with. Still, you can still get a Skype In number so that people can directly call your iPad. You'll need to be running iOS 4.0 or above, and Skype for iPad is a free download.
