Sigma dp Quattro cameras feature 19mm, 30mm, and 50mm fixed focal length lens

Sigma has announced a new digital camera series that is called the Sigma dp Quattro. The Quattro name comes from the use of a new Foveon X3 digital image sensor that is of the Quattro generation. The new image sensor promises photos similar to traditional color film with multiple layers to capture all the information from visible light.

The goal is to create a camera that can provide resolution, precise gradation, high color, and realism that is almost 3D. The camera has a body designed for balanced shape and weight distribution. There are three different models in the dp Quattro range and each of them has a fixed focal length. The dp1 Quattro has 19mm focal length, the dp2 Quattro has a 30mm focal length, and the dp3 has a 50mm fixed focal length.

Sigma says the cameras are able to deliver the same sort of image quality that medium format cameras are known for. The Foveon X1 Quattro direct image sensor has 39MP equivalent resolution. The sensor is also optimized for faster image processing.

The cameras use a new True III image processing engine developed specifically for the image sensor. The image processing engine uses a special algorithm that promises to support fast processing without degrading the quality of the final image. The cameras have an ISO range of ISO100-6400. All three cameras use a 3.0-inch TFT color LCD on the rear. Pricing and availability for the series of cameras is unannounced at this time.
