Schlage shows off new Touchscreen Deadbolt

Schlage is one the largest makers of deadbolts and other door locking hardware on the market. The company has offered some rather high-tech door locks in the past that use a keypad allowing you to unlock the door without a key. The company has unveiled a new line of touchscreen deadbolts that offer interesting home automation capabilities.

The Touchscreen Deadbolt lock offers home automation features of the Nexia Home Intelligence service, and features a built-in alarm. The deadbolt has an American National Standards Institute grade 1 security rating, which is the highest residential rating awarded on the market according to the company. The lock is capable of holding up to 30 unique access codes.

That would mean each member of the family can have their own access code and the lock also supports temporary access codes to allow guests and others access to your home that expire after a certain time. The integrated alarm is designed to announce when people go into or out of home. The alarm can also warn that someone is trying to break into the home. The touchscreen is fingerprint resistant and it has a slim exterior designed to be compatible with storm doors.

The home automation features via the Nexia Home Intelligence capability allows homeowners to manage the lock from anywhere in the world using a smartphone or tablet. The system allows the user to unlock the door, manage key codes, and receive text messages if the lock is activated or if the alarm is triggered while they are away. The lock will be available in the middle of January at prices of $199-$229. A subscription is required for the remote management capability at $8.99 per month.
