Samsung Ultra HD TV range expands with curved sets & more

Samsung has boosted its Ultra HD TV range, including a pair of curved sets and a sizable 85-inch model for those with big living rooms. The new 85-inch HU8550 Series TV is the largest in its product line – though not the largest UHD TV Samsung actually offers, which is a whopping 110-inches – while the HU7250 Series brings curved UHD to a $2,200 price point, with what the company claims is a broader "sweet spot" for viewers.

The HU8550 UHD TV has UHD Dimming and Samsung's Precision Black technology, as well as Smart TV functionality of course. It – and the other models – get HEVC, HDMI 2.0 support, MHL 3.0, and HDCP 2.2, along with support for the Samsung UHD Evolution Kit. Samsung has offloaded the brains of each set to a separate "One Connect Box" – which also has the ports – that can be upgraded when new functions or standards are released.

As for the HU7250 Series of curved TVs, they's be offered in 55- and 65-inch sizes. Both get UHD Upscaling and UHD Dimming, as well as the ability to show four different things on-screen simultaneously, from a mixture of live TV, internet content, and on-demand video.

The HU6950 Series are intended to bring Samsung's UHD prices down, cutting under the $1,000 mark for a 40-inch set in fact. Offered in three sizes, they too get UHD Upscaling and Dimming, and a new smart TV hub for web browsing, and quad-display-split.

The HU8550 will go on sale in late June, priced at $9,999.99, as will the HU6950 Series, priced at $999.99 for the 40-inch, $1,499.99 for the 50-inch, and $1,999.99 for the 55-inch.

Samsung's curved HU7250 UHD TVs will follow on in August, priced at $2,199.99 for the 55-inch and $3,299.99 for the 65-inch.
