Samsung Tizen phone tipped to tote quad-core Exynos processor

With a Samsung multi-device event coming up on the 20th of June, it's no surprise that several machines have begun to surface well before their official unveiling. Today's suggestion is that there'll be at least one smartphone running Samsung's own non-Android operating system Tizen. This device is said to be working with a rather powerful processor under the hood, too.

As the Samsung "Premiere" event approaches, the company has set the path with several official announcements: the Galaxy S4 Zoom leads the way with a new hybrid mix-up of smartphone and high-powered camera. The Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 exists as an iPhone-sized Galaxy S 4-generation smartphone for the low end of medium.

The whole Galaxy Tab lineup has been refreshed with a "3" on its tail, 8.0, 10.1, 7.0 and all. Also included in the rush was the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, tiniest of the bunch.

Then there's the unknown Tizen-based device code-named GT-I8805. This device has appeared before today (in code) as a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution machine with a Cortex A9-based processor under the hood. This is also not entirely new information. Before today, this machine's processor could have been one of several bits of architecture.

What was discovered today was a connection to one – and only one – possible piece to this puzzle courtesy of the Samsung Tizen source code. As Niels Zomer of TechTastic discovered, only the Exynos 4412 has support from Tizen at this very moment.

The Samsung Exynos 4412 is a 1.4-1.6 Ghz quad-core processor you'll also find running in the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, the Galaxy Note 10.1, and the Samsung Galaxy S III international version. This processor withs with an ARM Mali-400 GPU and ARM Cortex-A9 CPU – and is no motor to scoff at.

Expect the Tizen-based device with the Samsung Exynos 4412 under the hood to appear later this month at the June 20th event – we'll certainly be there with bells on.
