Samsung NX1 SMART Camera gets 28MP and 4K video

Samsung keeps pushing photographers toward a smarter breed of camera, and the Samsung NX1 SMART Camera is the latest attempt, complete with 4K video recording and a new 50-150mm f/2.8 S lens. Packing g 28-megapixel, BSI CMOS sensor with, so Samsung claims, the company's fastest autofocus to-date, the NX1 packs in a new NX AF System III with a whopping 205 phase-detection autofocus points.

That gets used for 15fps continuous shooting with continuous focus tracking, while the focus system itself covers 90-percent of the frame and uses a new patterned AF assist beam with a 15m range.

Inside, there's a DRIMe V Image Processor and adaptive noise reduction. Phase-detect AF is supported for both stills and videos, while during things like sports photography, the NX1 tracks fast-moving objects and fires the shutter itself for the best shot.

Video is recorded at up to Ultra HD resolution, and saved direct to the memory card with the HEVC H.265 codec. If you've got a Samsung Ultra HD TV, meanwhile, you can beam the footage across to it over WiFi.

Physically, there's a welcome top deck LCD for quick access to settings like ISO (100-25600), white balance, and aperture, while NFC makes quickly sending photos and videos to a smartphone or tablet more straightforward. Samsung also bakes in WiFi b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 3.0.

A built-in flash, XGA resolution OLED electronic viewfinder, and a 3-inch Super AMOLED 720 x 480 touchscreen with tilt round out the key elements of the dust and splash resistant camera.

As for the new NX 50-150mm F2.8 S OIS lens, that slots into Samsung's premium line of interchangeable lenses and uses a so-called Ultra-Precise Stepping Motor which the company says is three times more precise than the typical motor at focusing.

Pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed.
