Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Beats Apple iPad 2 In Display Contest

Apple's iPad 2 has been carrying the torch for the best quality display, but a recent comparison test suggests that it may be ousted by the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. The test was conducted by DisplayMate, comparing the iPad 2 display to that of various other Android tablets in addition to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, including the Motorola XOOM, Acer Iconia Tab A500, and the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer.

The attributes that DisplayMate focused on were color accuracy, viewing angles, saturation, brightness and contrast, screen reflections, backlight power consumption, and battery life of the display. The worst of the bunch was the Motorola XOOM, which scored poorly across the board. In the middle were the Acer Iconia Tab A500 and the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer, leaving the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 competing for the number one spot.

The iPad 2 scored especially well when it came to color accuracy and viewing angles, while the scores of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was on par or exceeding. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 scored higher on a number of the tests, including screen reflections as well as brightness and contrast. Points were actually subtracted from Samsung for having too intense of a color saturation, which cannot be adjusted. However, overall, DisplayMate felt that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 scored higher in enough instances to name it the winner.
