Samsung 2-in-1 detachable Chromebook to have stylus and silo

Things seem to be getting interesting for Chromebooks again. On the heels of Google removing the last remaining Android tablet from its store, clues of improvement of Android apps on Chrome OS have surfaced. And while Google is now pointing buyers to its own Google PixelBook for their Android tablet fix, Samsung might have a better solution coming. Last month saw signs in Chrome OS code of what could the first 2-in-1 detachable Chromebook coming from Samsung, and it might even come with a nifty stylus and a home for it.

Styluses on Chromebooks are nothing new by now. Samsung did have one for its Chromebook Plus and Chromebook Pro. Google also has one for its PixelBook, but with two major differences. One, it ran on batteries. Second, there was no way to stow the stylus inside the PixelBook itself.

Samsung's upcoming Chromebook will go in the other direction, just like its Plus and Pro models, and have a silo for the stylus. But more than that, it seems that it will actually be patterned after Samsung's Galaxy Note line, where there are actions that can be triggered when the S Pen is ejected from or inserted into the device.

This would bring this still unannounced Samsung Chromebook closer to its Galaxy Note line and, perhaps, to its old ATIV tablets. That said, while having a place to stow the stylus away, it comes as the price of ergonomics, as such styluses necessarily have to be thinner than regular, comfortable pens.

There is still no word on when this Chromebook will make an appearance. Even with CES 2018 just around the corner, it's not expected to be there this early. Then again, few probably expected Samsung to take Chromebooks this seriously either.
