Roku reveals Canada and UK 2012 release plans

Roku has announced its international launch plans, with the company's streaming set-top boxes set to launch in Canada and the UK in early 2012. The call has been put out for new partners keen to get their streaming services onto users' TVs to get in touch, though it's likely that Netflix – which is already operational in Canada, and announced its own 2012 UK launch plans recently – as well as other existing content providers will be onboard too.

However, there'll be region-specific channels on offer, as Netflix secures deals with Canadian and UK providers. There are also casual games on offer on the US models, such as Angry Birds, which is also likely to transition into the newly supported regions.

Pricing and specific availability hasn't been confirmed, but Netflix recently launched its cheapest model to-date, the $49 Roku LT. That will now get a special remote with custom Netflix, Pandora and Crackle buttons, in the US at least, though we imagine services will be queuing up to get dedicated shortcuts of their own elsewhere.
