Rocketfish Tablet Caught in Photo Shoot, Best Buy Jumping Into Tablet Market?

While a video may be better, we'll take what we can get. Today, Best Buy's CTO, Robert Stephens (who is also the founder of Geek Squad), used Twitter to send out a very mysterious picture. Well, as mysterious as it can be, we imagine, considering the main point is pretty clear: Best Buy's got a tablet. At the time of this writing, the details about this piece of tech are pretty scarce, but that probably won't be the case for long.

The tablet itself, at least from what we can see in the picture, is pretty good looking. It's definitely got the look and feel of a tablet, but that's pretty obvious. Unfortunately, all of the important parts of this are missing. For example, we have no idea who is manufacturing this guy. Secondly, we don't know what's powering it. And, lastly (and perhaps most importantly), we have no idea what Operating System the company has chosen to put into their tablet device.

We have heard in the past that Best Buy was working on an Android 2.2-based tablet, and that could very well be what we are looking at. Though, there are some other grumblings that this could be a re-branded HP Slate 500 (which we know, in its original frame, is going to the enterprise). And while that could certainly be a possibility (it certainly does look familiar), we can't say for sure one way or another.

Rocketfish, as a whole, is a re-branding machine. It does this with all sorts of other devices, like GPS units, computer parts, and audio/video equipment. Are they ready to jump into the market where Apple's iPad currently holds the crowd? We'll just have to wait and see, and start guessing whether or not this new tablet will make an official appearance any time soon.
