Robert Pattinson 'top choice' for Bruce Wayne in 2021 Batman movie

Robert Pattinson, the 33-year-old British actor best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight movie saga, may play Bruce Wayne in the Batman movie schedule to hit theaters in summer 2021. A report claims Pattinson is in end talks for the position, potentially making him the latest Caped Crusader in a role previously filled by Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Christian Bale, Ben Affleck, and others.

News of the alleged casting deal comes from Variety, which reported on Friday that Pattinson is currently wrapping up negotiations to play Batman in the Matt Reeves flick. The deal hasn't been finalized as of Friday, May 17, but Pattinson is allegedly the 'top choice' for the role and is expected to close the deal in the very near future.

The movie, which will simply be called The Batman, will include Catwoman and the Penguin, according to Hollywood Reporter, marking the return of villains previously played by Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer in Batman Returns (Anne Hathaway took on the Catwoman role in The Dark Knight Rises, as well).

There's no word on other casting for the movie, which will enter pre-production later this year or in early 2020. The script is still being polished, based on current reports, with Warner Bros allegedly giving director Matt Reeves ample time to produce a (hopefully) solid story. Reeves was behind two Planet of the Apes movies.

There's no word on who may be cast to play the movie's villains — there haven't been any leaks about talks with potential actors to fill these alleged needs, though we'll no doubt hear more once production starts. Assuming everything goes according to plan and there aren't any unforeseen delays, The Batman will hit theaters on June 25, 2021.
