Rise of the Tomb Raider hits PS4 with VR support on October 11

Rise of the Tomb Raider is coming to the PlayStation 4 on October 11, Square Enix announced today, and it'll be bringing PlayStation VR support with it. We heard last summer that the PS4 version of the game would be arriving in time for this year's holiday season, and mid-October gives enough time to target those early Christmas shoppers. The October 11 release will be for Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and it'll bring with it a new story chapter dubbed "Blood Ties," all the DLC that has already been released, and more.

The upcoming PS4 game will bring a bunch of perks with it, including the Blood Ties and Lara's Nightmare premium DLCs, an "Extreme Survivor" mode that doesn't include any checkpoints, co-op support in "Endurance Mode," a cold-weather weapon and outfit that Square Enix says is "re-envisioned," the classic Lara card pack, support for the PlayStation VR, and all of the previously released DLC content including 7 weapons, a dozen outfits, and more.

That new "Blood Ties" chapter will have gamers exploring the Croft Manor within the main story mode, according to Square Enix, as well as keeping out zombies under the "Lara's Nightmare" mode. The gamer is tasked with finding proof of her being the heir to the manor, otherwise she'll lose her right to it and, thusly, all of the dark family secrets it holds.

Those with the game on PC and Xbox One needn't fret, as Square Enix says it will be releasing the "Blood Ties" upgrade as well at no cost for gamers with a Season Pass. Though the game doesn't launch until October, those particularly eager to get it can preorder the title now for $59.99 USD here.
