Rewind YouTube Style 2012: Psy leads YouTube star mash-up

What do you do when you're the star of the most-watched YouTube video, and it comes time for a mash-up of the biggest hits of 2012? If you're Psy, you take the lead in Rewind YouTube Style 2012, blending Gangnam Style and Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe for a musical run-down of the big memes in streaming video along with some of the best-known YouTube stars.

That includes RealAnnoyingOrange, BarelyPolitical, iJustine, EpicMealTime, GloZell, AlphaCat, and many more, in scenarios like the Red Bull Stratosphere dive, the Curiosity Mars landing, and other notable 2012 happenings. YouTube hasn't stinted on packing nods to popular culture into its four minute clip, and you'll need to be up on your news if you want to catch them all.

It's not the first 2012 wrap-up we've seen this month, with the big online names weighing in with what made headlines and earned hits from the past year. Google's Zeitgeist report broke search traffic down into various lists, with Gangnam Style unsurprisingly getting a mention there too, while Twitter's Best of 2012 pulled together the most-tweeted content to build its lists.

Facebook, meanwhile, took a more personalized approach, using the Timelines feature to build individual summaries of the key events in each users' year. Over in retail, meanwhile, Apple pared through its App Store to deliver the biggest software of 2012.
