Report: 'Android Pay' coming to Google I/O

At Google I/O in May, we're likely going to see a lot of software-centric things for the crowd of Developers packed into Moscone West in San Francisco. Though it's all about the Devs, Android users will still get insight on what's in the pipeline. Part of the keynote and overall discussion will likely surround Google Wallet, which recently found its footing with carriers as Google acquired 'technology' from Softbank. A new report details that Google Wallet may soon have company in the form of Android Pay.

The new-look mobile payments system from Google will also come with a new API for Developers. Once implemented, Android Pay will act much like Google Wallet. You can add credit, debit, and loyalty cards.

A new feature will allow interested retailers to add Android Pay to their app, and offer a single-tap point-of-sale experience. That is said to be useful in-store as well as online.

Google isn't believed to have any launch partners for Android Pay. Google Wallet is also said to be sticking around, and will be 'supported by' Android Pay. It sounds more like a hand-off than a coup at this point, but calling it 'Android Pay' is telling.

Earlier today, we detailed how Softcard — after their deal with Google — was sidelining their app. In that move, Windows was being completely blown off, which could be a precursor for an Android Pay announcement. Can't really have Android Pay on Windows, right?
