Reno 911! sitcom returns in 2020 on Quibi short-form service

American comedy show Reno 911! is returning as an exclusive to short-form mobile video service Quibi. The platform is built specifically for millennials (and Gen Z, at this point) who largely consume video content using their smartphones, opening the door to a new short-form genre that offers stories in around 10 minutes or less.Reno 911! is a Comedy Central mockumentary-style sitcom that spoofed real-life shows like the long-running series Cops. The series ran on Comedy Central from July 2003 to July 2009, ultimately airing six seasons with a total of 88 episodes that were around 22 minutes in length each. The revival will arrive on the Quibi platform in 2020.

The term Quibi refers to 'quick bite,' which is a nice way to sum up the budding short-term video genre. This same platform previously announced intentions to revive the show 'Punk'd' for a modern audience. Thus far, we know Quibi is bringing back the show's creators Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, and Kerri Kenney-Silver.

The trio will be writing and will star in the revival series, but other cast members haven't been revealed at this time. Reno 911! is known for its heavy reliance on improvisation, making it uniquely suited for a short-form comedy series.

We don't know what to expect in terms of episode length, but it's probably safe to say each episode will be around 10 minutes long, making them around half the length of episodes in the original series. Quibi, meanwhile, is not free, but as with many other video services, it is fairly cheap. Viewers will be able to sign up on April 6 when the service launched at $5/month ($8 if you don't want ads).
