Refreshed 2021 VW Atlas debuts at the Chicago Auto Show

VW has announced that the facelifted 2021 Atlas debuted at the Chicago Auto Show this week. The SUV is a seven-seater vehicle and has a bolder design and interior upgrades along with advanced technology. VW also fits the Atlas with new driver-assistance features while maintaining the space inside the vehicle.VW says that the Atlas has been a "huge success story" and that the new model takes the functionality of the previous model and ups it with new tech and more style. The refreshed 2021 Atlas maintains the same underpinnings of the outgoing model while being nearly three inches longer, thanks to a new front and rear bumper design. The vehicle has a three-bar grille for more style and headlight, and taillight designs include standard LED lighting.

VW offers the R-line trim with unique bumper design, side skirts, and 20 or 21-inch aluminum wheels depending on the trim. Inside the 2021 Atlas, there are upgrades over the previous model with a new steering wheel, available contrast-stitching on leather seating surfaces, and door trim. The infotainment system gets an 8-inch screen.

Buyers can opt for the VW digital cockpit, Fender Premium Audio System, ambient lighting, 3-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless charging, and remote start. VW also fits it with Car-Net telematics system with an updated mobile app and a list of no-charge services for five years. There are subscription options with in-car WiFi available.

Driver-assist tech available for the new Atlas includes Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Monitoring (Front Assist), Blind Spot Monitor, and Rear Traffic Alert are standard on all models. Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Stop and Go, Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist), Park Distance Control (PDC), Park Steering Assistant (Park Assist), and Overhead View Camera (Area View). The two powertrains available of the car include a 276hp V6 and a 235hp turbo four. All-wheel drive is available with both engines. Pricing will be announced closer to launch this spring.
