Red Dead Redemption 2 rumors make big claims about PUBG-style multiplayer

Now that Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed yet again, we have many months of rumors and reports to look forward to. There haven't been very many reports in the time since the game was first announced, but one that's landing today is indeed a doozy. In fact, it might just turn out to be the biggest Red Dead Redemption 2 leak we'll hear by the time everything is said and done, as it details a ton of different modes and features found in the game.Trusted Reviews has shared details of purported Red Dead Redemption 2 development notes it first received back in August. At first, the site didn't want to share the documents because it couldn't corroborate their claims, but in the time since then, promotional materials shared by Rockstar have suggested that the information held in these notes might be legitimate.

The biggest revelation is that Red Dead Redemption 2's multiplayer component could feature a battle royale game mode. We don't know how similar such a mode will be to games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds or Fortnite, but we should obviously expect some similarities given the popularity of the genre. A battle royale mode in Red Dead Redemption could certainly be interesting, but now that the game won't be arriving until October, it might be launching a little too late to turn heads.

In any case, Trusted Reviews also says that Red Dead Redemption 2's online component will feature a lot of similarities to Grand Theft Auto V, which is to be expected. This includes the presence of an online free roam mode, along with the ability to purchase and customize a tent of your own, mirroring the apartments feature from GTA V.

We also learn that the game can be played entirely in first person mode if you so desire, something that applies to both the campaign and multiplayer modes. Trusted Reviews suggests that it has information on RDR 2's campaign, but chooses to avoid spoiling it and instead focus on the activities you can partake in during your solo playtrhough. Fishing, gathering, and riding challenges will all be part of the campaign, so it sounds like the whole hunting and gathering aspect from the original Red Dead Redemption will be returning with more to do.

The article makes many more claims about minor aspects of the game, but what you just read are some of the major points. As always, take what's reported here with a grain of salt – even if these design documents are legitimate, they're also somewhat old. It's entirely possible that information contained in these documents is outdated (either in part or in full), so we could very well see a final game that is missing some of the features explained here. Red Dead Redemption 2 launches for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on October 26, and it's then we'll figure out how much of this report is true.
