Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version seems plagued with issues

After years of leaving us hanging, Rockstar is finally bring the Red Dead Redemption franchise to PC today. It's doing that through the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, which was revealed back in October. While many of us have learned to expect some issues with PC games on day one, it seems that the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is off to a particularly rocky start.

Currently, there's a launch issue megathread over the PCRedDead subreddit that has attracted a large number of comments in a short period of time. At the time of this writing, the megathread already has 1481 comments, despite the fact that it's only six hours old and the subreddit itself only has 3,758 subscribers.

Within that thread, there's been a number of issues listed, many of which don't have any known fixes at this point. Users have reported that their CPUs are maxing out and causing the game to stutter or freeze, that the game isn't fully utilizing their GPUs, and that the game is crashing during the intro. There are some who are even saying that they can't get the game to boot up at all, which of course is the worst issue of the bunch.

Users have managed to find some rather interesting fixes or workarounds to these issues, which can involve disabling antivirus software or updating the motherboard's BIOS – the latter of which being a fix that seems particularly strange. Rockstar, meanwhile, has been slowly updating its help portal for the PC version, so expect to see more articles there as time goes on.

For the time being, though, if you're attempting to play Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC and you're running into issues, it's probably best to hang out in that thread and see if anyone has a workaround. We'll see how quickly Rockstar can get these problems ironed out, so stay tuned for more.
