Red Dead Redemption 2 PC may be in the works after all

When Rockstar first announced Red Dead Redemption 2 back in 2016, a big question for players was whether or not the game will come to PC. Thus far, Rockstar has only talked about Xbox One and PS4 as supported platforms for release, and considering that we're almost two years out from reveal, things haven't been looking good for a potential PC port. That all changed last night, however, when a Rockstar employee suggested that a PC version of RDR 2 is indeed in the works.

In the wee, small hours of the morning today (at least here in the US), VG24/7 discovered a LinkedIn profile for a Rockstar employee that basically outs Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC. Under experience, the developer – who remains nameless, for obvious reasons – notes that they helped program Grand Theft Auto V, LA Noire, and Red Dead Redemption 2 on "PS4/XBox1/PC."

While that's far from official confirmation, it's the best we've got at the moment, and it's one of the only instances we have of anyone associated with Rockstar mentioning PC in the same breath as Red Dead Redemption 2. After Grand Theft Auto V's massive success on PC, it seemed like a no-brainer to put Red Dead Redemption 2 on the platform as well, but thus far, it's felt like Rockstar doesn't share those views.

Of course, it's always possible that Rockstar is looking to follow the same strategy it had with Grand Theft Auto V. With that game, Rockstar released on Xbox 360 and PS3 first, bringing the game to PC a year-and-a-half after it first launched. While it was a controversial strategy for Rockstar, it seemed to work out well nonetheless, as it meant that many players ended up buying the game twice.

Could that be what's in store for Red Dead Redemption 2? We'll just have to see what happens, but right now, one thing is for sure: if Rockstar is planning a PC release for Red Dead Redemption 2 as this LinkedIn profile claims, it's doing a great job at keeping it under wraps. We'll keep an ear to the ground for more, so stay tuned.
