QUANT e-Sportlimousine premieres at 2014 Geneva Motor Show

Today at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, nanoFLOWCELL introduced its QUANT e-Sportlimousine to the public for the first time, presenting the first ever auto with nanoFLOWCELL's powertrain technology and energy storage system, making it one of the most visually appealing research cars out there.

At the heart of it all are flow cells, which merge together fuel cells and electrochemical accumulator cells, using liquid-form electrolytes in a couple of tanks that are circulated through the cell. There are two electrolytic solutions, which are separated by a membrane that still permits the passing of an electric charge — the power source for the drive train.

With the nanoFLOWCELL come multiple advantages over traditional options, among them being a lack of moving parts and harmful substances. Efficiency is said to be very high, and the system is lighter than alternatives, while performance and charge density are both high. All in all, the company behind it says nanoFLOWCELL has 5 times the performance by weight of modern lithium-ion technologies found in electric cars.

Said nanoFLOWCELL Technical Director Nunzio La Vecchia, "The QUANT e-Sportlimousine is a research vehicle for road testing innovative energy storage systems, focusing especially on development and improvements in flow cell battery technology. [It] is neither a show car, nor a concept car. It is the first automobile to be fitted with the nanoFLOWCELL® that is also designed from the ground up to meet all homologation requirements."
