Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 620, 618, 425, and 415

This week the folks at Qualcomm have introduced a number of new processors for high volume tiers of smartphones. They've started off with two families: Snapdragon 600 and Snapdragon 400. From there, you'll find units like the Snapdragon 620 and the Snapdragon 618 coming out, ready to "redefine the 600 tier with significantly higher levels of performance with integrated 64-bit ARM Cortex A-72 CPUs and new X8 LTE modems." There's also a new octa-core CPU for the 400 tier – so its looking like even the "lowest end" of the smartphone universe is coming up powerful!

The Snapdragon 620 and 618 processor line will be coming with single SKU multimode LTE designs with LTE Broadcast, LTE dual SIM, and VoLTE. They'll be coming with Qualcomm Adreno graphics, of course, as well as superior performance.

The Snapdragon 620 works with 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 CPUs and Cortex-A53 cores. The Snapdragon 618 works with two ARM Cortex-A72 cores paired with quad Cortex-A53 CPUs. Both units work with dual channel LPDDR3 memory as well.

This tier allows twin 13-megapizel cameras and 4K video capture. Low power sensors and exceptional audio output round out the potential for devices with these SoCs.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 will roll with 4G LTE Cat7 connectivity as well as a Qualcomm RF360 front end solution. This unit works with "all major modes and frequency bands across the globe" including 5-mode. Dual-SIM, LTE broadcast, and VoLTE are also included.

The Adreno 405 GPU is included in the Snapdragon 415, as are eight 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPUs.

Qualcomm expects to release Qualcomm Reference Design (QRD) versions of the Snapdragon 620, 618, 425 and 415 processors soon.
