PSN password reset surge triggers further downtime

The PlayStation Network may be back online in many regions – North America and locations in Europe and the Middle East got the green light this weekend – but that still doesn't necessarily mean gamers can access the service. According to Sony, the huge number of people resetting their passwords has caused ISPs to throttle the confirmation emails automatically sent out.

In response, Sony has been freezing its mandatory password reset process to allow the backlog to clear out. Since everybody needs to pick a new password before they can get back onto the PSN, it means some users are left without service while others can already get on.

Sony recommends waiting a half-hour or so to allow the password email to drop into your inbox. Anybody having issues waiting for confirmation to show up?
