PS4 firmware 5.0 details leak: Pro Twitch streaming at 1080p 60fps

Details about the PlayStation's upcoming firmware version 5.0 have leaked ahead of the software's actual launch, tipping console owners about the features and tweaks they can expect in the near future. This newest firmware will reportedly, first and foremost, bring Twitch streaming at 1080p / 60fps to the most powerful PS4 console, the PlayStation 4 Pro. There will also be some features for non-Pro owners.READ: PlayStation 4 Pro Review Part 1 – The Big 4K Question

At the moment, Sony has the PlayStation 4 firmware 5.0 beta up on its website, where console owners can enroll in hopes of getting access to the beta trial. You can sign up for that here if you're hoping to get access yourself, though keep in mind that beta software can be buggy.

If you don't have access to it, though, no worries — EuroGamer claims to have a list of some of the upcoming features, the first being that aforementioned ability to stream video on Twitch at a high resolution and game rate. There's also said to be some sort of 'overhaul' to the way the system handles main and sub accounts.

Specifically, Sony will reportedly introduce a new web application for managing family accounts, as well as membership and parental controls. Family accounts will be able to list multiple adults as well as 'sub' accounts for kids. Accounts belonging to other PS4s can be sent to these adult accounts so that everyone is collected under the same family account, if desired.

As well, PS4 owners will soon get Xbox One-like functionality in the form of being able to follow any user's account. This may help boost the number of interactions between gamers, as well as the number of sharing that takes place. There won't be any friend limitations or requests involved in this new feature.
