Porsche 935 dedicated racer limited to 77 epic units

Porsche has unveiled a new dedicated racing car that is called the Porsche 935. The ride will be made in an exclusive run of 77 cars and Porsche calls this a birthday present from Porsche Motorsport fans to the world. This car isn't homologated and that freed the designers to develop the car as they saw fit.

That means this car isn't aimed at pro racing drivers or teams looking to participate in big racing series. The Porsche 935 is meant for clubsport events and private training on racetracks around the world. While the body looks retro and cool, underneath the 935 is based on the epic 911 GT2 RS.

Porsche used lots of carbon-fiber composite parts in the body of the car, most of which has been replaced compared to the 911 GT2 RS. The rear of the 935 is streamlined and extended with the car measuring 4.87-meters long and 2.03-meters wide. The aerodynamic body is a tribute to the Porsche 935/78 Le Mans racer dubbed "Moby Dick" by fans.

Porsche says lots of details on the car are a salute to winning racers of the past. The wheels are meant to remind of the 935/78. The end plates on the rear wing have LED lights adopted from the 919 hybrid LMP1 racer. The side mirrors are from the current 911 RSR that won at Le Mans. Exposed titanium tailpipes are modeled on those from the Porsche 908 from 1968.

The car has a carbon fiber steering wheel, massive roll cage, and a color display behind the wheel from the 911 GT3 R of 2019 vintage. Racing bucket seats are included with six-point racing harnesses and a passenger seat is an option. The interior is air-conditioned as well. Power is a 3.8L twin-turbo six making 700hp and a 7-speed PDK gearbox. The 935 is 1,280kg and uses Porsche Stability Management and ABS. Pricing is set at 701,948 Euro or about $812,000 and deliveries start in June 2019. The cool Martini livery is an option.
