PlayStation Network social, gaming issues continue to plague gamers

PlayStation 4 owners have been complaining about issues with the PSN service most of today (Thursday), primarily about trouble getting into in-game parties and joining voice chats. Sony updated the PSN status page with a warning about Gaming and Social issues earlier today, saying about 4PM EST that it was investigating the issue. No update has been given and the issues persist.

According to the PSN Status website, the issues are currently only impacting PlayStation 4 owners. Sony advises console owners that they might have problems launching some games and applications — and even if the games do launch, the online features may be partially or wholly unusable.

"Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience," Sony said. The company also published the following tweet:

The issue was flagged on the PSN Status website at 3:46PM EST. Notably, many have complained about being unable to join parties in Fortnite, but the problem has also impacted other games. As well, many console owners are unable to send Party Chat invitations, and invites that do go through often cannot be accepted.

Down Detector shows thousands of reports about PSN issues starting around early afternoon today, Eastern Time. The outage map related to the complaints shows the majority centering on the US East Coast, however, reports are also shown in other regions of the US, as well as Mexico, Canada, Europe, Japan, and other countries.
