PlayStation 4 getting mod support for Skyrim and Fallout 4 after all

Last month, Bethesda announced that mod support for Fallout 4 and Skyrim wouldn't be coming to PS4. The company didn't delve into too many specifics about why this was, though it did say that Sony wouldn't "approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition." It would appear that Sony has changed its mind on the matter, with Bethesda announcing that mods for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition with come to PS4 after all.

They'll arrive first for Skyrim Special Edition, which launches later this month. Bethesda says that PS4 modders won't be able to upload their own assets for mods, but can use anything that's already available in the game. Creating a Bethesda.net account and downloading the Creation Kit is the key to creating and uploading mods for the PS4 version of Skyrim Special Edition.

Once Bethesda has finished bring Skyrim's mod support online, it'll begin work on making Fallout 4 compatible with mods. There's no word on when, specifically, mod support will go live for Fallout 4, nor do we know if mod will be available for Skyrim Special Edition at launch.

As a nice little bonus, Bethesda also announced that it will making both Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4 compatible with the PS4 Pro. Bethesda says that both games will be receiving 4K functionality and support for enhanced lighting features, which is good news for those who were planning on picking up Sony's new machine. Skyrim Special Edition launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 28.
