Plants vs Zombies 2 closing in on 25 million downloads

PopCap Games released the long-awaited sequel to Plants vs. Zombies back in mid-August. The game arrived as the appropriately titled Plants vs. Zombies 2 and it looks like it has received a rather warm welcome. In fact, the folks at PopCap have recently shared some numbers and it looks like Plants vs. Zombies 2 has already topped the original in terms of downloads. And this comes with just iOS downloads as the game has yet to be released for Android.

Just to clarify that number, Plants vs. Zombies 2 has already topped the original in terms of lifetime downloads — going all the way back to 2010. According to details shared in a recent posting on the PopCap Games blog, Plants vs. Zombies 2 is closing in on the 25 million download mark. The game is available for free by way of the iTunes App Store and will run on the iPhone and iPad.

The game is currently ranked between 4.5/5 stars and further details from PopCap show how users have played for total of 81,000,000 hours. Some of the other number related highlights include 10,000,000,000 which is the number of plants that have been planted, 5,400,000,000 which is the number of zombie waves and 39,000,000,000 which is the number of suns that have been generated.

While some of this can likely be attributed to the initial hype surrounding the release, we suspect this bit of teaser only serves to make those carrying something other than an iOS device a bit more upset. And to that point, we have yet to hear anything in terms of when Plants vs. Zombies 2 would be arriving in the Google Play Store. For those who are not yet included in the 25 million — the game may be a sequel to the original, however it does include new zombies and more plants as well as improved graphics and more details on the plants.
