Pixel 2 Kinda Blue now on Google Store, Project Fi

CES week might not always be the best time to announce new smartphones which could quickly be swept away in the flood of other electronics. It is, on the other hand, the perfect time to do things that would be OK, maybe even preferable, to go under the radar. That might be the case with the Pixel 2 this week. No, there isn't a new bug or problem to add to the still long list. It's all good this time, now that the Kinda Blue Pixel 2 is available for all to buy.

The Kinda Blue color, for those who haven't been keeping up with Google's own Pixel phones, is a play on the 2016 original generation Pixels. That one had a "Really Blue" hue that some may have found to be a bit too garish. Hence the more toned down and Almost Not Blue Kinda Blue.

That color was previously available only on Verizon. Which is sort of ironic considering Verizon's nickname is "Big Red". But Pixels, for better or worse, have had some exclusivity with Verizon and since there's no red Pixel 2, it had to settle for that.

Now anyone can kinda buy a Kinda Blue Pixel 2. That is, if they're going to buy it from the Google Store or via a Project Fi subscription. There are no price differences from the Just Black or Clear White options. Sadly, there is still no Kinda Blue Pixel 2 XL. The larger phone, however, does have the Black & White "Panda" color that the Pixel 2 doesn't have in turn.
