Philips Hue outdoor range lights up just in time for summer

Summer is quickly approaching here in the United States, which for most of us means more time spent outside. Whether you're gardening, grilling, or just hanging out in your backyard, you need adequate lighting for the space, and Philips wants to fill that need. Today it announced a new range of Hue lighting made specifically for outdoor use, giving you the same degree of control over your outdoor lights as you have over your indoor ones.

If you've already bought into the Philips Hue ecosystem, these new lights will work with your existing hardware and lights. If not, you can choose between a couple of different outdoor starter packs, which come with the bridge that allows you to control all of your lighting through the Hue app.

Philips' outdoor range of Hue lighting seems to be centered around two lights in particular. The first is the Hue Lily, which is a spotlight that can be used to draw attention to certain parts of your outdoor area. There's also the Hue Calla, which seems to function as lighting that's more general purpose. Both of these lights comprise the Hue white and color ambiance outdoor range, so they'll be able to transition between 16 million different colors to fit a mood or theme.

Philips isn't stopping with just white and color ambiance lights, though, as it will also offer other products like the Lucca, Tuar, Turaco, and Ludere lights in its white range. Once plugged in and connected to your Hue bridge, you'll be able to control them through your Hue app, changing brightness, warmth, and color with touch or voice controls. This new outdoor range will also support Hue's Home and Away feature, and with location awareness, you can even have them turn on when you arrive home at the end of the day.

This new outdoor range of lights will be available beginning in July in both the US and Europe. Philip's Lucca, Tuar, Turaco, and Ludere lights will start at $49.99 and will only be available in the United States (at least at first). Meanwhile, the Lily base pack and the Calla bollard will be available in both regions, retailing for $279.99/€299.99 and $129.99/€139.99 respectively.
