Periscope adds map browser and instant replay

Live video streaming app Periscope is making it easier to find interesting broadcasts, adding a map browser to navigate through content by location. The updated app, available today, embeds a zoomable map into the "Global" section of Periscope, with lists of the most popular streams that have had location enabled. Meanwhile, the Twitter-owned service has also been working on how readily streams can be shared and re-watched.

For instance, replays of Periscope streams that have ended are now available instantly. Before, they would have to be uploaded separately, adding a delay after the end of a broadcast before those late to the link could see what had been shown.

In addition, it's now possible to share – via Twitter, of course – a link to your currently watched broadcast.

The new app also brings language localization to 29 countries, including Japanese, Danish, Hebrew, and Thai.

Periscope for iOS will be the first to get the new geographic search and the instant replays; in fact, the update is already waiting in the App Store. It's unclear when the Periscope for Android app will follow.
