Panasonic Lumix TZ95 packs 4K recording and 30x zoom in a tiny body

Joining its newly launched FZ1000 II digital camera is a new compact travel zoom model, the Lumix TZ95, from Panasonic. The TZ95 packs a bunch of features into a tiny body, offering photographers more options than they'll get from their smartphone, but without the bulk of larger, heavier digital cameras. Among other things, the Lumix TZ95 features 4K video recording, a zoom lens, and optical image stabilization.READ: Lumix FZ1000 II unveiled: 20MP, 16x zoom, and 4K

Unlike the FZ1000 II, which features a larger DSLR-like body, the TZ95 has a slim, compact body that could easily be slipped into a pocket or purse, enabling travelers to carry around a dedicated camera without feeling like it's a burden. The model is offered in both black and silver color options.

This Lumix model, which is also sold under the model names TZ96 and DCZS80 depending on region, features a 1/2.3" high-sensitivity 20.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and a Leica DC Vario-Elmar 24-720mm equivalent fixed zoom lens with 30x optical zoom and 60x "intelligent" (digital) zoom.

Though smartphone cameras are arguably the most convenient, they can't compete with this zoom level, which enables users to capture content from incredibly far distances. In addition to the ultra-zoom capabilities, the TZ95 supports recording 4K/30fps video, burst image capture at up to 10fps, and shooting still images in RAW format.

Other features include shutter speeds as fast at 1/16000-second and as long as 30 seconds when in Night Mode, ISO 80-3200, multiple capturing modes (daylight, shade, etc), an electronic viewfinder with 100-percent coverage, and a 3-inch rear touchscreen tilt LCD. The camera also brings some physical and wireless connectivity options, including micro HDMI, micro USB, and 802.11n WiFi.

The Lumix TZ95 compact travel zoom camera is now available to preorder for $447.99 USD; shipping will start "soon."
