Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 DSLM 4K digital camera unveiled

Panasonic has announced what it says is the first ever Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) camera that offers 4K video recording. Photographers can use the camera to both record Ultra HD videos and snap stills, doing so with a 16.05-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor and a quad-core processor.

As far as the video feature goes, the GH4 can record in Cinema 4K (4096x2160/24fps)and QFHD 4K (3840x2160/30fps) in both MP4 and MOV formats, as well as lesser resolutions like Full HD at 200Mbps ALL-Intra or 100Mbps IPB sans time limit. There's 59.94Hz, 50Hz, and 24Hz options, as well.

As far as taking still images goes, the GH4 offers burst shooting in 12 frames-per-second up to about 40 stills when saving in RAW format, or up to 100 stills when saving in something other than RAW (there's also 7/fps AFC). ISO goes up to 25,600, making for very high sensitivity, and there's Contrast AF and integrated Depth from Defocus.

The camera also features a high-speed OLED display of 2,359K-dot (live view finder) and 1,036K-dot rear display. The LVF in particular has a 10,000:1 high-contrast ratio for what Panasonic promises is excellent colors. The body is made of magnesium alloy for durability, and there's a splash- and dust-proof construction to help protect the camera from harsh elements.

No pricing or availability has yet been announced.
