Panasonic AX3 convertible Ultrabook aims to take on Lenovo's Yoga

Panasonic is looking to create some waves with a convertible Ultrabook of their own. The company has announced the AX3 laptop that's a lot like Lenovo's IdeaPad Yoga lineup, as well as Dell's XPS 11, where the screen can flip back behind the keyboard in order to turn it into a bulky tablet of sorts

The AX3 series of convertible laptops come with Windows 8, and include an Intel Core i7 Haswell processor on the inside, clocked at 1.8GHz. There's also 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive to compliment the package. Panasonic boasts that the AX3 has a 13-hour battery life as well, but we're remaining skeptical until we can play around with it ourselves.

The AX3 also sports a full 1080p HD IPS display that's touch-capable, allowing you full touch control over two million pixels. We're entirely sure how big the display is, but from the video below, it looks to be in the 13- to 14-inch range, so a 1080p resolution at that screen size is fairly impressive.

The AX3 also touts a rugged side, and the convertible Ultrabook can survive a 2.5-foot drop, which is about the height from the floor to a desk, so no worries if ends up sliding off a table. However, we're not sure well it would fair from a higher height. Panasonic also says that it can withstand 220 pounds of weight. We're not sure what the situation would be where we would want to put something heavy on top of our laptop, but the protection is there either way. Sadly, no pricing or availability details have been disclosed yet, but we're guessing we'll see it later this year.
