Owlboy is coming to Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch already has a few great indie games thanks to ports of Minecraft and The Binding of Isaac, but it's about to get one more. Nintendo has revealed that indie gem Owlboy will come to its newest console, though it did so without a lot of fanfare. You'd think that Nintendo would want to shout about Owlboy, which was one of 2016's best indie games, from the rooftops.

Instead, Nintendo merely revealed that Owlboy will come to the Switch in a new episode of The Cat Mario Show. Though the show is entirely in Japanese, it's very clearly a showcase of indie games that are either on or coming to the Switch. Most of these games are ones we already knew aboutOvercooked, Fast RMX, and Snakepass all feature, just to name a few.

Then, about six-and-a-half minutes into the video, we get the reveal of Owlboy. So far, this brief trailer is the only thing we've got to work with. Owlboy's developer, D-Pad Studio, apparently hasn't made an official announcement yet, meaning that there's no indication that it will launch outside of Japan.

Of course, chances are high that will launch worldwide, because Owlboy is going to be a game that Nintendo wants available in all regions. With an excellent Metacritic score of 88, Owlboy was on plenty of top 10 lists for 2016. Add to that the fact that it's only about six months old at this point (it originally released in November 2016), and this could be a major seller on the Switch.

Its future on the Switch looks particularly bright when you consider that it hasn't come to any other consoles yet – before this, Owlboy was exclusive to PC. There hasn't been any word of it coming to other consoles like Xbox One and PS4, so a bit of exclusivity on the Switch could serve Nintendo well. We'll keep our eyes peeled for more information on Owlboy, so stay tuned.
