OverDrive to offer magazines, newspapers via Nook partnership

Nook and OverDrive have partnered up to bring newspapers and magazines in digital form to public libraries utilizing the latter company's platform. The expansion in content will be available to OverDrive users in both the United States and the United Kingdom, says the companies, though the new digital wares won't start rolling out for an unspecified number of months. Because it is being offered through the OverDrive platform, the additional content will be free for users to download. We've got the rest of the details after the jump.

For those who aren't familiar, OverDrive is a platform used by libraries that lends digital books in much the same way a library lends patrons a physical book. This can include things like audio books, and thanks to the new partnership, will soon include Nook Newsstand titles.

Says Nook Media, its newsstand offers the top 100 bestselling magazines in the United States, as well as newspapers and magazines from elsewhere in the world. Though it doesn't seem all Newsstand content will be available through the OverDrive platform, Nook says "a huge selection" will be.

Those who want to check out one of the digital news items will need, in addition to the necessary library card, either the Nook reading app or a Nook device. These users will also be free to contact Nook's in-store support if needed. It isn't clear when all of this will be available, but as always, we'll update you when we know more.
