Ori and the Will of the Wisps goes gold, which means no more delays

Those of you looking forward to Ori and the Will of the Wisps got some good news today, as Moon Studios announced that the game has gone gold. That, for those not in the know, means that development on the game has finished and it's now ready for mass production ahead of release. It also importantly means that barring some kind of critical issue popping up, Ori and the Will of the Wisps is now safe from further delay.

That's definitely a good thing, because Ori and the Will of the Wisps has been delayed twice at this point. Originally, the game was scheduled to release at some point in 2019, but in a trailer at E3 2019, Microsoft and Moon Studios revealed that the release date had been pushed back to February 11th, 2020.

Then, toward the end of the year, the two companies revealed another delay for the game, pushing it back to March 11th, 2020. It was a slight delay in the grand scheme, but for those who have been looking forward to Ori and the Will of the Wisps, it was a disappointment nonetheless.

Now that the game has gone gold, the chance of it being delayed further is pretty slim. Obviously, we're not going to say there's zero chance of another delay because game development is an unpredictable and often cruel mistress, but going gold is definitely a good sign.

Here's hoping that the somewhat extended wait for Ori and the Will of the Wisps turns out to be worth it. The first game was well-received by fans of Metroidvania titles, and personally, it's one of my favorite games of the generation. Expectations are certainly high for Ori and the Will of the Wisps, so we'll see if it delivers on March 11th.
