Onkyo receivers will work with Sonos after June firmware update

Audio company Onkyo has announced that its network receivers are getting the Works with Sonos stamp, ensuring the receivers will work with the Sonos mobile app. The company revealed the news today, explaining that all of its compatible receivers can be used with the Sonos app to stream music. The capability will arrive next month via a firmware update.

The "Works with Sonos" certification means Onkyo's network receivers will be supported by Sonos, making them a solid option for Sonos system owners. Customers who have both products will be able to use the Sonos app to stream music via the AV receivers, as well as certain stereo receivers and processors.

In addition to the Onkyo brand, the support will also apply to certain Pioneer Elite, Pioneer, and Integra brand devices. Onkyo vows that once the firmware update arrives in early June, the supported receivers will "seamlessly connect" with Sonos' Home Sound System.

Talking about the upcoming support is Onkyo USA's director of product localization Don Milks, who said:

For more than 70 years, Onkyo has been at the forefront of delivering premium sound and adding Sonos compatibility enables custom installers and home theater fans access to Sonos' renowned whole-home audio. Now the Sonos app that you are familiar with can stream your favorite content to your network receiver adding tremendous value and convenience to any system.
