OnePlus 7 Pro OxygenOS 9.5.7 update may have banished Phantom Touch

It should have been its crowning glory but OnePlus ended up with egg on its face with the OnePlus 7 Pro. Even if you temporarily ignore what some claim to be subjective assessment of the flagship's cameras, it's impossible to ignore the fact that some users are experiencing hardware problems where there should be none. To its credit, OnePlus is moving fast, perhaps scrambling, to patch up the ship before it sinks and this latest update may have fixed some of the most glaring ones.

Granted, it actually doesn't list the phantom or ghost touch issue in its changelog but it has acknowledged that a "limited number" of users have reported it. It even implied that the fix is just a few weeks away. Some users have reported that the ghastly bug may have already been exorcised from their OnePlus 7 Pro but it's odd that OnePlus wouldn't brag about that.

Majority of the fixes in OxygenOS 9.5.7 do revolve around the most vocal criticism of the phone: its camera performance. Despite the glowing review DxOMark gave it (with unreleased firmware), users have panned real-world performance, going as far as calling out OnePlus for resorting to marketing shenanigans. This update mentions fixing or improving things like Nightscape, HDR noise, white balance problems, and more.

It also has fixes for double tap to wake and ambient display, two of the reported and acknowledged issues with the phone. again. it's rather odd OnePlus would be silent on more major problems. Either it isn't yet really fixed or it wants to downplay the problem.

If OnePlus does manage to satisfy the complaints owners have about the phone, the OnePlus 7 Pro could still end up being this year's top Android phone. Especially with the current camera king Huawei in limbo and Samsung's flagship costing nearly twice as much.
