OnePlus 5 will also get Android 10 but not soon

OnePlus started out as the rebel that refused to settle for the status quo. Initially, that applied to the combination of hardware and prices but the once small startup wants to make sure everyone knows that "Never Settle" also applies to the entire Android experience, including updates. It has worked to provide the latest Android version to its faithful fans, even to the slightly old models like the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. Unfortunately, owners of those phones will have to wait for their turn at Android 10.

Launched in 2017, both the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T came with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. Since then, the two phones have enjoyed two major updates up to 2018's Android 9.0 Pie. For most manufacturers, that's already more than enough. Not so for OnePlus who just revealed owners will be treated to one last update.

OnePlus has just revealed its broad timetable for rolling out Android 10 to its phones and the pleasant surprise there is that the OnePlus 5 and 5T are included in that list. The only catch, however, is that the official release is still almost a year away, targeting the second quarter of 2020. That could leave enough time for OnePlus to run into a problem that will prevent them from actually releasing the update.

The OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro are, of course, lucky to already have the update already rolling out to them, being the next-to-recent flagships. The OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are currently undergoing beta testing and can expect their Android 10 next month. That is if everything goes well.

It's definitely reassuring that OnePlus continues to support a phone that, by other OEM's standards, would have already reached its end of life. The company has indeed kept true to its word which, save for camera performance, continues to make it one of the most enviable Android smartphones in the market.
